Hedge Day with Ian Metson and Megan Gimber

Thursday, 7 March 2024

Learn all about Hedges, Laying, Maintenance and The wildlife contained within and the benefits.

Cluster member and founder of Hedgelife: Ian Metson, will be going LIVE showing us the art of hedge laying and coppicing using a tree shear, show us new plantings and those a few years on.

Ian will explain in simple terms, the current SFIs and Coutryside Stewardship Capital Grant Funding, which recognise the importance of hedges to birds, mammals, and pollinators and there is no better time to start maintenance or get planting. They are a vital part of flood management, and are even eligable for BNG and biodiversity uplift!

We are joined by brilliant speaker Megan Gimber , the Key Habitats Officer from the Peoples Trust for Endangered Animals who is a "self-confessed hedge-geek" and is an expert on these, the "green veins" of our countryside as an important habitat.
